There are many ways to become involved with Amnesty International Canadian Section (English Speaking): through financial contributions, as a volunteer, or both. You may become a member of AI in two ways: through a community group such as Calgary Group 2&57, or as an individual through the National Branch Office. The annual membership fee of $40 or $15 for students/people with low income. If you join through the Calgary group $35 or $15 respectively is sent to the National Office. You can download a membership form here and bring it to our next meeting or mail the form and cheque to Amnesty International, #306, 223-12 Ave SW Calgary AB T2R 0G9. To join Amnesty Calgary, please come out to one of our meetings. The Calgary group usually meets on the third Thursday of the month, at 7:30 pm in the Common Room on the main floor of the Old Y Center (#306, 233 12 Avenue SW). Please check the "Events and Meetings" tab to the left for up-to-date information on the next meeting. Alternatively, you may contact us by e-mail: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , or phone: (403) 270-8026. There is no real distinction between joining through a community group or the National Office. All members have the same rights and privileges. It should be noted that when you become a local group member, you automatically become a Branch member. However, becoming a Branch member does not mean you become a local group member. If you are already a Branch member and would like to join our group, please fill out our group's Membership Form and the group membership fee is optional. An advantage of being involved in a local group is that you will meet other like minded individuals in your community. Most people find inspiration in working with others and being able to connect with other AI members in their community. "The whole of a group is more than the sum of its parts!" If you would like to support Amnesty's work with a financial contribution, please click on the 'Donations' tab on the left for information on the many ways you can contribute. |
