Saturday, October 3rd 10:00 am to 4:15 pm Calgary Memorial Branch Library 1221 - 2nd Street SW Canada has its own human rights issues, from the land rights of the Lubicon Cree, to violence against women and the ordeals of Maher Arar tortured in Syria and Abousfian Abdelrazika stranded in the Canadian embassy in Sudan. The Canadian section of Amnesty International is bringing several high profile campaigners – including Secretary General Alex Neve -- to Calgary for a one-day conference, "Demand Dignity". The day will feature a series of workshops and presentations on topics including: * Engaging Youth * Renewing Your Activism * Demand Dignity: highlighting a film from Vancouver’s Human Right Film Festival * Running a Film Night or Film Festival * Forced Evictions and Land Rights * Women and Human Rights * Business and Human Rights * Even Human Rights Activists Disagree: resolving conflict Cost: $40 / $25 students. Includes lunch and free admission to Alex Neve evening presentation! To help organizers plan the event, pre-registration is strongly encouraged.
